Rules & Posting Guidelines

general rules;
Make sure you read over all the game rules before applying to Madness. It is important that you follow all these rules and posting guidelines in order for the game to run smoothly. If you have any questions, please e-mail the moderators at itsmadmods AT gmail.com.

To prove that you have read the rules, please put the following phrase at the top of your application: "It's madness, I tell you! Madness!"
rules for applying;
This game is likely to include mature content, including sex. As such, all players must be at least 17 years of age to apply.

The character limit is four characters per player. Please make sure that all of your characters remain involved and active in the game.

In regards to game activity, we recommend that you post at least once a week, however you must post at least once every 2 weeks to stay in the game.

We at Madness RPG do not allow the following in threads: Rape, Incest and Underage Sex (involving anyone under the age of 18).

We reserve the right to reject any PB. All PBs must be approved by the mods, including any PB changes (if you wish to change your PB, please e-mail the mods with your reasoning and ask for approval). PB icons should be simple and clean and should not include text or an abundance of textures. For help in finding PBs and for a list of PBs already in use, please see our played-by post.

We do allow slash, but within reason. It is unlikely, given canon facts, that any well-known characters in Harry Potter were gay. However with lesser-known characters, we may consider it.
game and plot rules;
Madness is, above all things, a "crack" game, in which all sorts of things can happen. However, there must be at least some limit to this. No MPREG, please, it just isn't physically feasible. When plotting for crazy things to happen to your character, keep the following in mind: If it's something small like their hair changing color, or such, go ahead and have fun! If it's something bigger that might cause more ramifications, like an Unspeakable who always has to tell the truth, please run it by the mods first.

Players must follow canon, excluding the epilogue. If something doesn't exist in canon, please get approval from mods before implementing in game. For example, certain magical powers like empaths, etc.

Be polite to other players. Please, no OOC drama. If you have an issue with another player, please discuss it with a mod, do not bring it into the game or make a scene, please. If a player is seen causing OOC drama, they will be given a warning. If, after receiving the warning, they continue to cause drama, they will be removed from the game.

There will be no God-Modding. In other words, no making a character do something or have something done to them, without the express permission of the character's player. If a player is caught or reported as God-Modding someone else's character, they will be warned. If they are caught doing it again, they may be removed from the game.

Any game deaths must be approved by the mods and any characters involved.

As for plots, player created plots are maintained by the creator. If you wish to create a new plot, all characters involved must approve and it is appreciated if you run the plot by the mods, especially if it is a major game-altering plot or something like your character having something really crazy happen to them, or if they get pregnant or married, etc.
posting guidelines;
1. THREADS/LOGS: interactions between 2+ players or solo threads.

Must be written in third person past tense. For an example of a thread between two characters, see our: EXAMPLE POST.

Start the thread in the main comm, and use the following form. For logs (started in Google Docs, etc) you may use the following form when finished and then post the log itself in the same entry but under a cut.

Who: (Characters Involved.)
What: (General Plot of thread.)
Where: (Location of thread.)
When: (Date and Time of thread.)
Warnings: (If applicable.)

Status: (In Progress or Completed).

2. CHARACTER JOURNAL ENTRIES.

All characters have magical personal journals they can write to each other or themselves in. We encourage you to have your characters write in their journals.

Any entries should be written in the character's personal journal, where anyone can comment depending on the privacy of the entry.

Journal Entries may be: public (any other characters can see and comment to them), hexed private (a personal journal entry that no one can comment to), or hexed private to be seen and commented on only by a certain character or group (for example, "Hexed Private to Hermione" or "Hexed Private to Members of the Order") or blocked so that only a certain character or group of characters cannot see it. ("Blocked From Ron Weasley").

Anything that is strikethrough can still be read. Anything that is bold strikthrough cannot be read.

3. OWL POSTS, INTEROFFICE MEMOS OR NOTES.

Should be posted directly to the main community.

When owling or sending a memo, make sure to state who the owl is sent to, and who it is from.

To show that you've really read all the above rules, please add at the end of the sentence listed above: "And I love it."
